Catania vs. Roma

The Giallorossi hoped to reach some level of consistency after thrashing Fiorentina 3-1 and drawing 3-3 with Palermo. They remained in Sicily to take on sorry Catania, who had just two points to their name.

Taka Morimoto sprung the offside trap on Adrian Ricchiuti's through ball after eight minutes and his angled drive was denied by an outstretched Julio Sergio foot.

As with last year, Morimoto was at the right place at the right time. Some chaotic defending from a corner eventually saw Julio Sergio flap a Potenza cross on to the back post, where the Japanese striker was ready to tap in.

Things got even worse for Roma, as Marco Cassetti also limped off to make way for Marco Motta. A free kick was rolled across to the edge of the area for Daniele De Rossi to fire just over. De Rossi also nodded off target, but Julio Sergio flapped a cross out from under the bar.

In the second half Giuseppe Mascara sprung the offside trap to chest it down in the box, but Julio Sergio performed a decisive save.

Catania continued to have the best chances, as Julio Sergio flew to fingertip a deflected Mascara attempt out from under the bar.

Roma snatched an equaliser in stoppages! The corner kick got a header from Juan, Totti's volley at the back post and finally De Rossi to tap in from a yard.

It still wasn't over, as deep into injury time Gennaro Delvecchio was sent off for dissent, there were repeated scuffles and then Andujar watched a Totti lob loop inches off target.
