Monaco vs. Saint-Étienne

Les Verts got off to the perfect start, when Christophe Landrin’s corner was headed into the net by Bakary Sako, who header flew through the legs of a defender on the post as it made its way into the net.

The strong start from the visiting side continued, but they were given a reminder of the home side’s threat when Nene’s net-bound drive was well pushed away by the home stopper.

Only a few minutes later Sainte were the width of the post away from going 2-0 up, but Boubacar Sanogo, who has been immensely unlucky since joining the side, saw his effort bounce back off the post.

Gradually Monaco made their way back into the game, with Mathieu Coutadeur heading a presentable chance wide on 32 minutes as the home side remained unable to break through.

The second half started with les Monegasques in command. Though they infrequently broke through the visiting ranks, they had Sainte stretched and would ultimately level from a Sebastien Puygrenier header, which came about after a Nene free kick.

Alain Perrin’s side had posed little threat in the second half, but they would grab all three points late on, Gonzalo Bergessio powering a header into the net from a Dimitri Payet free kick.
