Juventus earned a draw to keep their unbeaten record intact after a difficult, and sometimes controversial, night in Genoa.
It did not take them long to breach the Rossoblu's defenses as Claudio Marchisio sent in a cross from the left from which Mauro Camoranesi and Vincenzo Iaquinta combined to get the Turin club off the mark after just six minutes.
Shortly after another chance fell to Ciro Ferrara's side as Amauri found space on the left. His shot went directly at Marco Amelia however.
Genoa slowly cranked to life, remembering that they had only lost twice at home last season and had a proud record at Marassi. It took the intervention of new Juve signing Fabio Grosso to cut off Giandomenico Mesto as he received the ball from Omar Milanetto in the hosts best move after 11 minutes.
Juventus continued probing forward, with Felipe Melo standing out particularly, but as the first half wore on a sensation came across that perhaps they were sitting back a little too easily.
While Amauri was showing all the nice touches you expect of a Brazilian there was little end product. The same could be said of Genoa, who were attempting to exert themselves but ultimately were finding their progress in the final third blocked off.
However, just after the half hour mark a sweeping cross from Giuseppe Sculli was headed home by Mesto - the defender looking for all the world as if he were born to be a striker.
Hernan Crespo arrived for the second half as Genoa looked to his experience as a way to break down the Bianconeri's defences.
The first real chance of the second period arrived for the home side in the 51st minute as a Modesto cross for Milanetto looks like causing danger, but Giorgio Chiellini arrived to stub out the danger. However, his backheader gave Gianluigi Buffon a moment of concern as the Bianconero almost put through his own net.
Chances again fell to Amauri and Iaquinta but Amelia was up to the task and kept Genoa on level terms.
Then, with fifteen minutes to go, controversy. Iaquinta had the ball in the net from a Fabio Grosso freekick but the goal was disallowed for offside. TV replays suggested some doubt but the Bianconeri's momentary lead was taken away nonetheless.
Seconds later and Gian Piero Gasperini's substitution paid dividends as the action went to the other end and Crespo put Genoa ahead, converting a fantastic cross from Mesto.
The goal saw Sebastian Giovinco brought on to give Juve extra spark but the home crowd were in full voice acting as a 12th man.
David Trezeguet arrived for Juve in the last ten minutes but the Bianconeri players seemed distracted by the perceived injustice and looked unable to get back into the flow of the game.
Never count them out though, as their own super sub did not take long to make an impact. Trezeguet teamed up with Chiellini to create a scoring chance which the Azzurri defender converted - only to see the effort ruled out for offside again.
However, just 60 seconds later the Frenchman added the equaliser and saved Juve's unbeaten record. Chiellini knocked on a free-kick from Grosso and Trezegol was in the right place to score the goal that puts Juve tied with Inter at the top of the table.
