Bari vs. Cagliari

The San Nicola side were unbeaten so far and fresh from a 4-1 demolition job on Atalanta. They welcomed a Cagliari outfit that had just one point and two goals to its credit. An early Jeda header and Andrea Lazzari cross-shot troubled the Bari back line, while Dessena wasted a great chance created for him by Lazzari. Moments later Cagliari threatened to open the scoring against the run of play, as his blockbuster from 20 metres whistled inches wide of the post.

Edgar Alvarez just failed to make contact with Paulo Vitor Barreto's ball across the face of goal, then Dessena flashed an angled drive inches wide of the far post.

Jean-Francois Gillet performed heroics on the hour mark, as he beat away a Lazzari screamer.

At the other end Federico Marchetti needed a stunning save on 69 minutes to keep out Riccardo Meggiorini's blockbuster from outside the box.

Cagliari took a surprise lead with summer signing Nene's debut goal. A cross from the right went past Ranocchia and he did not hesitate in thumping in at the back post. He had been on the field for only four minutes.

Ranocchia tried to make up for that error, getting a touch to a free kick and bringing a fingertip save out of Marchetti.
