Siena vs. Chievo

The Flying Donkeys' confidence was sky high after two straight wins, including crushing previous leaders Genoa 3-1 at the weekend. Siena's self-esteem took a beating in their 4-1 defeat at Sampdoria.

Massimo Maccarone attempted an acrobatic backheel flick from Claudio Terzi's cross, while Michele Fini's effort was charged down for a corner.

Gianluca Curci was forced into a tough save, fingertipping Luciano's header out from under the crossbar as a corner came in.

Just before half-time Maccarone threaded through for Simone Vergassola, who fired inches wide of the upright.

Stefano Sorrentino controlled a long-range Ghezzal snapshot straight after the restart, but Emanuele Calaio' also failed to make the most of the Chievo goalkeeper's error.

Ghezzal again didn't get enough power behind his shot and Granoche brought a save out of the goalkeeper.

In stoppages there was more action than in the preceding 90 minutes, as both sides hit the woodwork. First Sergio Pellissier nodded a corner kick on to the post for Chievo, then at the other end Sorrentino didn't deal with a Paul Constantin Codrea long-range drive, but was saved by the upright.
