Catania vs. Lazio

Tension was high in both camps, as after a sensational start the Biancocelesti had lost two on the trot to Juventus and Salzburg, while the Elefantini had zero points so far. Catania had won two of their last three home meetings with Lazio

The Biancocelesti went close with Pasquale Foggia's angled drive beaten away by Mariano Andujar, but were penalised on the counter-attack by a moment of Jorge Martinez magic. He combined with Taka Morimoto and smashed a right-foot screamer right into the top corner from just inside the area.

Julio Cruz was the second half substitute and he quickly levelled the scores. Foggia went down the right flank and crossed with his weaker right foot for El Jardinero's diving header at the back post. The goal came just moments after Cruz had scuffed another promising opportunity set up by Aleksandr Kolarov.

The Sicilians kept piling on the pressure as Martinez created a chance for Morimoto, but Stefan Lichtsteiner dived in to prevent a certain goal.

Nando Muslera smothered a Giuseppe Mascara right-foot effort to earn the point.
