Sevilla vs. Unirea Urziceni

Sevilla had only lost one home game in 42 European matches heading into the match and Unirea knew they were in for a tough test.

The initial pattern may have been as predictable as it was frustrating for the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán crowd. Unirea left only Marius Ioan Bilasco up front and often the striker, joint-top scorer in their championship-winning season, dropped deep to make a six-man midfield.

Unirea had their first sight of goal in the 13th minute but Iulian Apostol's long-range effort flew wide of the right upright. However, the Romanians were not proving to be the rollover that many thought they would be and, while they were not causing Sevilla any problems, Arlauskis was not unduly troubled either.

Sevilla started to get into the game and Kanoute almost gave them the lead on the half-hour mark following some good play between him and Luis Fabiano

The breakthrough finally came in first-half stoppage-time when Renato picked out Luis Fabiano who sent a rasping shot into the back of the net.

The visitors had a rare attempt on the hour mark as Pablo Brandan fired well wide.

Sevilla doubled the lead in the 70th minute when Luis Fabiano nodded on Diego Perotti's corner to Renato who headed home from virtually on the goal-line.

Sevilla were in complete control of the tie and Renato came close to adding a third three minutes from time but his volley crashed off the left upright.
