Auxerre vs. Nice

In a meeting of two struggling sides, Auxerre found themselves on the back foot for long stretches but claimed all three points with a goal in each half.

Hengbart got the first in the 29th minute when Benoit Pedretti's free-kick caused a scramble in the Nice penalty area and the defender was on hand to capitalise.

Hengbart then turned provider as Auxerre ended Nice's challenge with a second 12 minutes from time, crossing for substitute Niculae to finish.

The game turned with Hangbert's goal, and careless mistakes hampered Nice's attempts to get back into the game before half-time.

Auxerre goalkeeper Olivier Sorin made an outstanding saves to deny Gerald Cid and continue Nice's frustration.

Having survived the onslaught, Auxerre secured the win 12 minutes from time with Niculae's strike.
