Atalanta vs. Genoa

Houssine Kharja picked up an injury during the warm-up and was replaced by Alberto Zapater in the Genoa squad. Atalanta also needed the medical staff, as teammates Talamonti and Barreto clashed heads, but both were able to continue with bandages. Atalanta needed a goalline clearance to deny Lucho Figueroa after a lucky ricochet in the six-yard box. Robert Acquafresca had a good chance when he moved off his marker and smacked a right-foot shot that dipped dangerously to test Marco Amelia.

Genoa took the lead somewhat against the run of play. A corner was floated in for Emiliano Moretti's towering header. Amelia parried another Acquafresca strike, this time set up by Barreto, then Barreto drilled inches over the bar and Simone Padoin failed to make contact from a promising position. Giuseppe Sculli at full stretch just failed to make contact with a ball that flashed across the face of goal. At the other end Cristiano Doni's strike was incredibly powerful, but also central, so Amelia could punch it away. Amelia was forced into a fantastic save to deny Acquafresca's angled header, but Genoa also threatened to close the game with a Fatic free kick skimming the woodwork.
