Stevan Jovetic's goal and the saves from Sebastien Frey gave Fiorentina their first victory of the season. These two sides are both hoping for a Champions League spot, so the points at the Stadio Franchi could be crucial. Walter Zenga declared "there are no teams better than Palermo" and was fresh from a 2-1 victory over Napoli despite missing Fabio Liverani, Giulio Migliaccio and Hernandez. The Viola were held 1-1 at Bologna, 2-2 at Sporting Lisbon and scraped into the Champions League on away goals this week.
