Chievo vs. Lazio

Mauro Zarate was unlucky not to open the scoring early on when his magnificent free kick thumped the woodwork. Chievo took a shock lead 15 minutes in with their hitman Sergio Pellissier. Michele Marcolini's corner found Pellissier's header from six yards at the back post, as the Lazio defence was caught ball-watching. Morero was judged to have held back fellow Argentine Julio Cruz's shirt as a free kick was floated in, so the referee pointed to the spot. Cruz got back up to bury the penalty, sending Stefano Sorrentino the wrong way.

Kolarov cheekily tried to chip the 'keeper from midfield only for it to clip the crossbar. After the restart a Giampiero Pinzi pass sent Pellissier one-on-one with Nando Muslera only for his touch to let him down and the goalkeeper managed to pluck the ball off his foot. Cruz completed his brace with the easiest of finishes. Mauro Zarate's angled drive brought an ineffective save out of Sorrentino, only palming it into the feet of El Jardinero. However, Lazio were reduced to 10 men as Emilson Sanchez Cribari received his second yellow card for hauling back Pellissier on the counter.

Chievo poured forward and could've equalised on 72 minutes when substitute Bentivoglio smacked the crossbar from nine yards. Two very clumsy Mobido Diakhite' challenges in the box threatened to give away a penalty, but the referee waved play on, flashing the cards only to send Chievo Coach Mimmo Di Carlo off for dissent. A terrible Muslera error in the final minute nearly handed a point to Chievo. He flapped at a long ball and it fell to Pellissier, but the goalkeeper scrambled back to pluck it out of the air.
