Toulouse vs. Valenciennes

Philippe Montanier's side had lost all three of their Ligue 1 matches coming into Sunday's clash while their hosts had collected four points.

VA goalkeeper Guy Rolland Ndy Assembe had made several brilliant saves to keep his side in the game before Mamadou Samassa's 87th-minute winner.

Toulouse edged the early stages with Mauro Cetto's header from Paulo Machado's corner going narrowly wide of the right post.

Les Violets continued to press and in the 24th minute Daniel Braaten fed Machado at the edge of the box only for the latter's shot to brush the left post and go out for a goal kick.

Andre-Pierre Gignac came close to opening the scoring for the home side when he cleverly dribbled towards goal and fired powerfully only for Assembe to deny him brilliantly.

Toulouse began the second half in the same vein.Machado struck the post seven minutes in with a delightful free-kick before Etienne Didot's set-piece gave Braaten an opportunity which he took well only to be denied by the athletic Assembe.

Johan Audel had a good chance for VA with 19 minutes remaining, firing a left-footed effort powerfully which goalkeeper Olivier Blondel did well to save.

Creator-in-chief Machado then set up Fode Mansare in the 82nd minute with Mansare chesting the ball before executing an acrobatic shot which yet again brought the best out of Assembe.

Then with three minutes to go VA stunned the home fans when Samassa struck an unlikely winner.

Swooping on a poor clearance, Samassa collected the ball inside the box and rifled home to send the visiting fans wild.

Two minutes into added time Moussa Sissoka nearly equalised only for Assembe to pull off his best save of the night with another superb stop.
