For the second time in a few weeks time, AZ Alkmaar showed to be the stronger of the two in a match with SC Heerenveen. The defending champions beat the reigning Cup winners 0-2.
Heerenveen adjusted their tactic for this match but AZ had no difficulties finding the appropriate reply at Abe Lenstra stadium.
The opening goal, scored on 30 minutes, was a bit fortunate for the away side. Mounir El Hamdaoui hit the post and although keeper Martin Lejsal should have controlled the ball, he instead directed it into his own goal by accident.
The second goal came four minutes after the hour, just when Heerenveen were looking for the equaliser. Maarten Martens found El Hamdaoui, who easily beat Lejsal for 0-2.
