Adrian Mutu fought back to earn Fiorentina a 1-1 draw away to Bologna in the opening game of the Serie A season. Osvaldo pounced on a defensive error to test Sebastien Frey after 12 minutes, but 10 seconds later Fiorentina had a stunning chance. Jovetic crossed for Alberto Gilardino, who twice brought desperate reaction saves out of Emiliano Viviano from point-blank range. It was Bologna who took the lead with former Viola flop Osvaldo. The defence was static as the Italian-Argentine was allowed a totally free header from six yards to meet a Davide Bombardini corner kick. He refused to celebrate out of respect for his ex-fans, even though he left in bitter circumstances, but Gianluca Comotto's marking was woeful. Moments later Viviano was at full stretch to fingertip a Marco Donadel daisy-cutter round the post. However, Frey had to dive to his left to deny a brace, as a free kick was floated into the box and flicked back for Osvaldo's header.
