Stoke City vs. Burnley

The opening goal came in the 19th minute after Ricardo Fuller was fouled on the left by Elliott. Liam Lawrence swung in the resulting free-kick and Shawcross rose unmarked at the far post to head past Brian Jensen.

Irishman, Rory Delap was a far greater threat with his trademark throw-ins. It proved right in the 33rd minute when a throw in from Rory Delap was turned into his own net by Stephen Jordan.

Stoke almost had a third goal before the interval but the ball was cleared off the line by Mears after Fuller caught Jensen off his line by meeting a Lawrence free-kick with a looping header.

Burnley continued to show spirit and pushed hard in the second half but Stoke held on to their two goal advantage.
