Portsmouth vs. Fulham

The goal summed up the uncertainty at Pompey, Alexandre Gaydamak trying to sell the club and Paul Hart considered the favourite with the bookmakers to be the first top-flight manager sacked this season.

Sulaiman al-Fahim, who is fronting a potential takeover of Pompey, was present and saw Bobby Zamora break the deadlock with a fluke. Bobby Zamora opened the scoring on 13 minutes when he deflected a Clint Dempsey shot past the grasp of David James. The shot from Dempsey looked to be heading straight towards James but the ball spun off the big front man and into the net.

Portsmouth saw a number of half-chances go begging but for the large part, Fulham maintained a strong grip on proceedings and controlled the flow of the game.

With ten minutes remaining Bobby Zamora was replaced by Erik Nevland as Roy Hodgon elected to give Fulham’s front line a refresh.

Portsmouth finished the match with a final push which saw a number of half-chances come their way. Younis Kaboul twice powered headers just wide the target as Paul Hart’s side searched for the equaliser.
