On a day with very few goals in the Dutch Eredivisie, VVV and ADO Den Haag made up for that lack of entertainment as the two sides held each other to a 2-2 draw.
ADO experienced a great start in Venlo. Wesley Verhoek gave the visitors a 0-1 lead after just seven minutes and Ricky van den Berg doubled the gap from the penalty spot in the 30th. Sandro Calabro had handled the ball with a spot kick as result.
But VVV got one back in the 37th minute as Keisuke Honda struck home after preparing work from Diogo Viana.
ADO almost scored a third early in the second half but Calabro's shot came back from the crossbar. Instead, VVV equalised in the 76th minute as new keeper Barry Diteweg came just too late to parry a shot from Honda.
The away players were furious as they reckoned that their goalkeeper cleared the ball before it had crossed the line, but referee Richard Liesveld disagreed and the goal stood.
ADO ended the match with just nine active players as both Karim Soltani and Ricky van den Berg collected a second yellow card. Seven other players, five of VVV and two of ADO were booked as well.
