Report

Kevin Kuranyi opened the 2009/10 Bundesliga season in style as Schalke went on the road and grabbed a 2-1 victory at Nürnberg.

Playing in their first match under new manager Felix Magath, Schalke came out strong away from home and Germany striker Kuranyi bagged the opener on 36 minutes after slamming home a wonderful ball from Christoph Moritz. Schalke took the lead into the break, and they got even more help from Kuranyi after the restart.

Just five minutes into the second term, Kuranyi pounced on a rebound to give the visitors a 2-0 lead, and that would prove to be enough despite a late strike from Marek Mintal that kept Nürnberg in it on 87 minutes.

Schalke are at home to Bochum next Sunday as they look to continue a hot start, and Nürnberg will look to recover with a trip to Eintracht Frankfurt.
