Stade Rennes vs. Boulogne

Relegation favourites Boulogne were behind within the first ten minutes when Ismael Bangoura gave the hosts a 1-0 lead at the Stade de la Route de Lorient. A Sylvain Marveaux’s accurate and deadly pass sent the Guinean striker free to fire the home side into the lead on his home debut.

Asamoah Gyan’s effort was dismissed for an offside, while Bangoura would add another effort to his name before the interval, as Mathieu Valverde had a harrowing time in keeping the ball at bay.

But Kader Mangane would provide the ultimate blow with Rennes second goal, when he would head the ball into the net from a corner kick.

However, Boulogne displayed a better show in the second half with Gregory Thil striking over the bar and Laurent Agouazi sending his effort, wide of target.

But that were the only plus points for the hapless Boulogne.

Rennes rubbed more salt on Boulogne’s football display when Jerome Leroy would convert a free-kick in the last minute of play.

Certainly Rennes have had the last laugh over their closest rivals, for the moment.
