Grenoble keeper Jody Viviani would then be relieved minutes later when a Niang shot flew wide from the target and then parrying brilliantly a Taiwo free kick.

Marseille were given a real scare on the hour mark when Danijel Lubjoja's pass produced a good chance for Nassim Akrour to level scores but Gabriel Heinze would snuff out any danger.

And stopper Steve Mandanda would make his first save of the campaign by denying a fierce shot from Laurent Courtois.

But l'OM's struggles were quite short-lived as midfielder Benoit Cheyrou would seal the game for his team with ten minutes left on the clock.
