RKC Waalwijk were unable to celebrate their Eredivisie with a good result against FC Utrecht, who scored early to earn a 0-1 victory.
Not even three minutes had been completed in Waalwijk when Utrecht scored what turned out to be the winning goal. Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who joined Utrecht from Vitesse this summer, received a pass from Tim Cornelisse and then beat keeper Jurgen Wevers for 0-1.
Utrecht continued to create opportunities in the first half but failed to score a second goal.
After the break, RKC improved and managed to set up some chances themselves, but keeper Michel Vorm got in the way whenever needed to secure the narrow but valuable win.
