Middlesbrough lost their last match of the season 2-1 to West Ham United and are relegated as result. Boro finish in 19th position with only West Bromwich Albion behind.
Boro conceded a first goal on 33 minutes as West Ham's Carlton Cole's strike following an Ilunga pass left keeper Jones stranded.
The away side were given new hope shortly after half time though as Gary O'Neil scored from a Tuncay Sanli pass in the 50th minute but Junior Stanislas ended that hope eight minutes later, hitting the net from outside the penalty area.
Boro did try the occasional shot but usually lacked precision to really threaten keeper Green. As a result, Middlesbrough will no longer form part of the top flight next season.
