Fourth-placed Arsenal finished their 2008-09 season with a comfortable victory over Stoke City, who in turn end their campaign in 12th position.
Just ten minutes had been played at Emirates Stadium when James Beattie scored the opener in Arsenal's favor, directing the ball into his own goal from a corner.
And the hosts were handed a penalty a few minutes later as Ryan Shawcross fouled Robin van Persie in the area. The Dutchman himself went on to convert the spot kick.
Vassiriki Diaby netted a third in the 17th minute, heading home from a free kick. Ricardo Fuller got one back on the half hour but it was again Robin van Persie to add a fourth from within the penalty area in the 41st minute.
The home victory was entirely deserved as Arsenal created one chance after the other, with Stoke only able to try and limit the damage.
