With just two games to go, Newcastle United are no longer in the relegation zone as the Magpies earned a crucial 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough who in turn remain stuck near the bottom.
An own goal from Habib Beye give Boro a 0-1 lead after just three minutes but Steven Taylor's header from a Danny Guthrie corner levelled things six minutes later.
Alan Shearer had a hand in Newcastle's eventual victory as the former striker brought on Obafemi Martins for Michael Owen in the 70th minute, and the Nigerian went on to beat keeper Brad Jones for 2-1 seconds later.
The third and final goal came from Peter Lovenkrands, for short range in the 86th minute.
Newcastle are now in 17th place while Hull City drop to 18th, having a worse goal record than Shearer's men. Middlesbrough remain in 19th position, just ahead of West Bromwich Albion.
