Liverpool keep some title hope alive thanks to a 0-3 victory at West Ham United, who in turn drop from seventh to ninth spot and are no longer on course for European football next season.
The Reds needed just a little more than a minute to score the opening goal and it was Steven Gerrard himself to head home from a Fernando Torres cross.
The skipper went on to add a second in the 37th minute. Luis Boa Morte fouled Torres in the area and although Gerrard had his penalty saved by Robert Green, he was more successful in a second attempt.
Dutch forward Ryan Babel made it 0-3 with six minutes left to play, putting it home from short range.
The victory was deserved as Liverpool had the better chances, although the 0-3 result might not do West Ham's effort much justice.
