In an exciting 1-1 draw, Barcelona took a slight advantage away from France for their return leg at the Nou Camp in two weeks time.
Trailing for an hour after Lyon had taken an early lead, Barcelona fought back to equalise with just over twenty minutes left.
The home side dominated the early exchanges and were well rewarded as early as the seventh minute when Juninho was fouled right up against the touchline. His free kick from the narrowest of angles dipped and curled beyond Barcelona’s goalkeeper Victor Valdes into the net.
That goal spurred Lyon on further but they could not find the net. It was only after the half-hour mark that Barcelona began to dominate possession but they had to wait until the sixty-seventh minute to score.
