Getafe vs. Sporting Gijón

Getafe was always in control. Roberto Soldado scored the first of his hat-trick goals in the fifteenth minute when a mis-directed header by Sporting’s captain Jorge Garcia Torre was intercepted by Soldado, who did the rest. They were on target two minutes later when Esteban Granero’s header towards goal took a deflection and beat the defence.

Sporting did find a way onto the score sheet just before the break when David Barral picked up possession inside the area and after jinking to his right to create space, side-footed a cool finish just inside the far post.

Sporting came out at the start of the second half full of renewed energy and vigour and came close to equalising. However, Roberto Soldado was left unmarked inside the area to score his second. Shortly before the end, Soldado scored from the penalty spot to secure his hat trick. In-between a Javi Casquero pass set Ikechukwu Uche up for his first of the match.
