AC Milan missed the opportunity to return to the top of Serie A when a stoppage time equaliser by Lecce denied the visitors.
The match was played on an uneven surface that had suffered as a result of earlier heavy rain. Lecce was prepared to pack their defence and their tactic paid off. Having said that, AC Milan did miss many goal-scoring opportunities and their finishing also left much to be desired.
Just after having come onto the field, AC Milan’s Pato set up Ronaldinho who beat the defence from five metres out to give the visitors the lead with only ten minutes left on the clock. An Andrea Zanchetta free kick in injury time was deflected into the net by substitute Andrea Esposito.
