Valencia CF continued with their fine form and at the end of week six are joint leaders with Villarreal CF in the Primera Division with five wins and one draw.
In a match that created very few chances it was left to a quality strike by midfielder Manuel Fernandes to separate the two teams.
Valencia returned to the top of the Primera Liga with a narrow 1-0 win at Real Valladolid courtesy of a wonderful second-half strike by Manuel Fernandes. David Villa beat the defenders and fired in a cross from the right which was met by the former Everton player who slammed the ball past a ‘slow to react’ goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
Real Valladolid tried for the equaliser but made very few telling efforts. Their best chance of equalising came with twenty minutes to go when Jonathan Sesma found space inside the Valencia box but could only find the net on the side of the goal.
