VALENCIA/DONETSK, Sep 27 (SW) - Valencia CF beat AS Roma 2-1 at Mestalla stadium and lead in Champions League Group H, while Shakhtar Donetsk and Olympiakos held each other to a 2-2 draw in Ukraine.
Valencia - AS Roma 2-1
Roma were strong in the opening phase at Mestalla and came close in the seventh minute, when defender Moretti only just manage to keep Cassetti from having only the goalkeeper to beat.
Six minutes later, it was Valencia to open the score. David Villa found Miguel Angel Angulo in the penalty area, and the latter then struck into the left corner for 1-0.
The home team did not get much time to celebrate however as Roberto Ayala brought down Casetti in the penalty area in the 18th minute, and Francesco Totti made no mistake from the penalty spot.
But Valencia restored their lead in the 29th minute. Moretti beat several opponents before finding David Villa, and the striker struck into the left corner from about 18 meters with the goalkeeper beaten.
AS Roma did attempt to come back again but this time the Spaniards held on to their lead to maintai their hundred percent record in this season's Champions League.
Shakhtar Donetsk - Olympiakos 2-2
The Greeks were first to hit the net at the RSC Olympiyskiy Stadium of Donetsk. Nery Alberto Castillo rushed down the left wing in the 24th minute and found Michalis Konstantinou, who then scored his second goal in two Champions League games this season.
but the Ukranians equalized ten minutes later. A free kick from Matazulem was headed past goalkeeper Nikopolidis by Tomas Hübschman.
The Greeks again took the lead eight minutes after the hour mark however, as Castillo chested the ball into the net after Milos Maric had a shot blocked by the goalkeeper.
This time, Shakhtar needed only two minutes to level. The Greek defense failed to clear a cross and Ciprian Marica stood in the right position to take advantage.
