LIVERPOOL/BORDEAUX, Sep 27 (SW) - Liverpool almost gave away 3-0 lead over Istanbul but eventually secured the win, while PSV took three valuable points at Bordeaux.
Liverpool - Galatasaray 3-2
The first big chance of the match came in the fifth minute, when a distance shot from Luis Garcia was well saved by goalkeeper Mondragon.
But in the ninth minute, the hosts did take the lead. Fabio Aurelio's cross from the left wing was met by Peter Crouch, who powered the ball past the keeper.
And five minutes later, things got even worse for the guests as Luis Garcia headed into an empty net after a Jermain Pennant cross had left the defense in chaos.
The match was really decided in the seventh minute after the break. Steve Finnan found Crouch from the right wing and the striker performed a spectacular overhead kick to score for 0-3.
But 'Gala' began a comeback in the 59th minute, when Ümit sent a powerful header past Reina after an Arda Turan cross.
And six minutes later. This time, the cross came from the right wing and again it was Ümit to head past the goalkeeper for 2-3.
Liverpool avoided the equaliser however and the English achieve their first victory in this year's Champions League.
Bordeaux - PSV Eindhoven 0-1
The first twenty minutes of Girondins de Bordeaux against PSV Eindhoven was rather uneventful. The hosts had an opportunity in the 21st minute but Wendel's free kick was easily controlled by goalkeeper Gómes.
Both sides continued to create chances but it took until the 65th minute for the scores to be opened.
PSV forward Diego Tardelli came down the right and got past several opponents before sending the ball to Mika Vayrynen, who struck home from the edge of the penalty area to set the score to 0-1.
The Dutch had to spend the last minutes without Michael Lamey, who fouled Chamakh in the 85th minute and was sent off by referee Olegario Benquerença.
But Ronald Koeman's side survived without further problems to take three points and share the Group C lead with Liverpool.
